Upcycled Soft-Plastic Workshops
Learn how to transform LDPE into beautiful products. Together with .bungkus, Malaysia’s leading soft-plastic upcycling studio, we’ll take you through the full process: sorting, preparing, fusing, colouring, shaping, and finishing your own functional piece.
This isn’t a craft class for the sake of crafting. It’s a look at what responsible design can be. You’ll walk away with a one-of-one limited edition coin pouch, desk lamp, or wallet, a better understanding of how LDPE behaves, and the realisation that “waste” can be a seriously valuable material when handled with intention.
Perfect for creators, sustainability enthusiasts, designers, or anyone curious about circularity in action.

The Process
HOW DO WE MAKE IT?

SORT & DESIGN
COLLECTING, SORTING, MIX & MATCH
Though the raw material may be free and abundant, we will still need to sort, separate, and put together the soft-plastic (LDPE) that will make up our base material.

MAKING THE MATERIAL
FUSING
Once we have assembled our pieces of soft-plastic (LDPE) into a design we want, we use the heat-press to fuse them together. We may fuse quite a few layers to create the raw material for creating the piece.

CUTTING INTO SHAPE
Cutting it up
Now we cut up the base materials into the right shapes using templates so that we can later assemble them to make the final piece.

FINAL ASSEMBLY
MAKING THE PRODUCT
Now we assemble all the pieces, put in the final touches such as the snaps, and create the final piece.
Upcycled Soft-plastic Workshop
We will be running regular upcycling workshops out of our retail store, Re{me}dy at Zhongshan Building, including this series of LDPE upcycling workshops. To sign up for a workshop:
① Select the workshop you would like to attend based on the piece you will be crafting, the date, and the time,
② Add to cart and complete the payment,
③ Mark your calendars and start collecting LDPE to upcycle in the workshop!
LDPE, aka Low-Density Polyethylene, is a soft, flexible type of plastic. Usually used to make single-use plastic bags, bubble wrap, and protective coverings, they are ubiquitous in our everyday lives. LDPE is currently not conventionally recyclable, meaning every piece of LDPE produced eventually ends up in our landfills or our rivers and oceans.
Each workshop duration will vary based on the complexity and design of the piece. However, each workshop is designed to take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.

We hope that through this workshop, we can educate people more about plastics and give an understanding on how plastics are being recycled and upcycled currently in Malaysia.
We also want to show you the process and how much work goes into making our upcycled soft-plastic products.

WHAT IS THE ISSUE WITH PLASTIC?
Plastic is harmful to our planet because it does not biodegrade, causing long-lasting pollution in oceans and landfills. It endangers wildlife, contaminates water sources, and releases toxic chemicals as it breaks down. Reducing plastic use helps protect ecosystems and supports a healthier, more sustainable environment.
We hope to use upcycling workshops to teach people how to creatively reuse and transform waste materials into valuable products. This reduces landfill waste, conserves natural resources, and encourages a sustainable, eco-friendly lifestyle. By promoting upcycling, we hope to build environmental awareness and inspire positive change.
